Officers working a road checkpoint in Dunedin New Zealand busted a commuter playing what they at first suspected to be a ‘clarinet’ while driving. The way the police put it “The driver didn’t have their hands on the wheel at the time and he was clearly playing the instrument while driving the car”

Now the instrument has been determined to actually be a bagpipe ‘chanter’ which is the part of the overall instrument with holes where notes are played. “His fingers were going a million miles an hour” they say but when pulled over the driver said he was playing air-bagpipes and while the officer suspects he was playing the actual instrument, none was found.

“It’s foolish to say the least. We are also concerned with the amount of drivers using mobile phones while driving. These also are major distractions for people. Neither of these are a good idea” After the traffic stop the air-bagpiper was let off the hook with a warning and allowed to proceed with his day.
