Jim Carrey cleared in wrongful death case of former girlfriend

Jim Carrey has been through the ringer over the last while after being sued by Cathriona White’s mother and estranged husband. Carrey won’t face trial over the suicide of his former girlfriend who was found dead in September 2015 after overdosing on prescription pills. White’s mother Brigid Sweetman and estranged husband Mark Burton were both suing Carrey claiming he gave White the drugs that she would overdose on. Sweetman also alleged that Carrey gave her daughter sexually transmitted diseases and pressured her into silence shortly before her death. Representatives for Carrey spoke to the Hollywood Reporter saying that ‘matters have been dismissed’ while the attorney for Sweetman and Burton said “We have no further comment at this time”.

Responding to the initial news of White’s passing, Carrey said last year: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
